4 Reasons to book a family photoshoot during Autumn & Winter

I know, I know.. it’s getting cold and you’re probably thinking it’s too cold for family photos, but hear me out. Autumn and Winter are excellent opportunities for family photoshoots and here’s why:

1. Beautiful light at a time that suits all of you!

Probably my favourite reason for loving to photograph this time of year.

Achieving those gorgeous golden hour photos during Summer can mean stretching your little one’s routine to its limits, which can be challenging as they get tired. Sunsets during Autumn and Winter are simply beautiful. Booking your family photoshoot for Autumn or Winter means we can get those stunning golden hour photos earlier, while your kids are more engaged, energised and happy, resulting in a more relaxing session where you can be home for dinner! A sunset session during this time of year would start as early as 3:30pm.

If you still prefer to have your session earlier in the day, the light in Autumn and Winter is much more gentle that you will still receive beautiful images.

2. The colours!

Oh my, the colours! Autumn especially brings the rich golden goodness. The leaves glow and it creates magic!  And who doesn’t love playing in those leaves?!!

Winter tones also add a touch of drama to your images. While nature is muted, it allows you to be the focal point and provides a backdrop where you are the stars.

And don’t stress if it’s overcast! The clouds during these cooler months can help create an epic scene.

3. Locations are quieter

Parklands are busier during the summer months, but during Winter you may have the location to yourself! This makes capturing those precious family moments much easier, providing more variety to your gallery.

4. The Winter accessories!

How beautiful are knitted jumpers, scarves, wooly beanies and cosy blankets. The texture in these help create such depth to your images, so don’t be shy to rug up! Accessories also add some variety to your photos as you can include them in some shots and not in others.
